Update: Second Shooting Victim Identified, Suspect Due In Court

A man accused of murder in connection to a weekend shooting in Lexington is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.

Dynell Stewart II, 21, has been arrested and charged with murder after police said he shot two men inside a car on South Broadway Sunday morning, killing one of them.

Stewart was arrested in Frankfort and originally charged with assault. Police said he was served with a murder warrant after one of the victims died.

According to court documents, Stewart shot Allen Smith multiple times in the head. He died Monday at UK Hospital.

The second victim, Jordan Orgeman, was shot in the abdomen, according to police. He is still at UK Hospital with what police call non life-threatening injuries.

Police said Stewart was stopped shortly after the shooting when he ran a stoplight in the area. Court documents state that it wasn’t until later that police spotted the same type car in surveillance video of the scene.

Police said in the video, the car followed the victims into the parking lot, then fled after the shooting.

Police said they searched Stewart’s home and found a pistol. Court documents said the gun was sent to the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab and they determined the gun was used in the shootings.

Stewart is a student and former football player at Kentucky State University.
