Update: Search For Jacob Mulcahy Continues

An East Jessamine High School student drowned in the Kentucky River Wednesday afternoon, according to the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office.

Jacob Mulcahy, 17, was swimming with friends at the Highway 39 boat dock on the Kentucky River when the incident occurred around 2 p.m. Wednesday according to Chief Deputy Peele.

Peele said it was unclear how many people were with Mulcahy when the drowning occurred.

After an initial search of the area, the Lexington Fire Department Dive team was called in to help with the recovery operation. Divers searched for the teen's body until it become to dark Wednesday night.

Divers plan to continue their search at sunrise Thursday morning.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating.
