Update: Scott Co. Schools Expected to Open Thursday

The Scott County School District cancels school on Wednesday after two water pipes burst in two schools.
Scott County Superintendent Patricia Putty says they're expecting to resume school on Thursday after pipe bursts at two schools forced a district-wide shutdown.

Custodians in the district have been working since 4pm Tuesday when a sprinkler head ruptured in the media center of the Georgetown Middle School.

School officials say there was about six inches of standing water in the center when the burst was first discovered. They say about half of the school's fiction books were destroyed.

A second pipe burst was reported at Eastern Elementary School a few hours later just after midnight.

School officials at Eastern say a pipe above their copy room broke, spewing water in to two kindergarten classes.

Superintendent Putty says they decided to close all schools Wednesday to keep all 16 schools in the district on the same schedule going forward. She also says they needed the time to check the other schools for any potential pipe bursts.
