Lexington Police: School Bus Driver Ran Red Light

Lexington Police said the driver of the school bus involved in a crash Wednesday evening ran a red light.
Lexington Police said the driver of a Fayette County school bus involved in a crash Wednesday evening ran a red light.

Police said a red Mercedes was turning onto Man O War Boulevard from I-75 when the bus collided with it.

The Fayette County School District said the bus driver, William Gourley, has been a school bus driver for the district for five years.

According to the school system, Gourley had not had any reportable accidents prior to this incident.

The school district said Gourley was given a drug test after the accident and placed on administrative leave while the crash is investigated.  Both of those moves are standard procedure anytime a school bus driver is involved in an accident.

Police said the Mercedes was driven by Nanci House of London. She was taken to U.K. Hospital where she was listed in serious condition.

There were three people on the school bus; the driver, bus monitor and one student.  They were not hurt.

The accident remains under investigation.
