Lexington Police are still looking for a fugitive who they say didn't show back up at his own trial.

Police say John Buckley 4th didn't show back up at the courthouse Thursday for a verdict in his sexual assault trial.

Police say he had a monitoring ankle bracelet on, but took it off.

We asked the Fayette County Sheriff, whose department runs courthouse security, why a man who police consider "dangerous" was allowed to leave the courthouse on his own.

Sheriff Kathy Witt says, "Because Mr. Buckley was not in custody. So he was not a person incarcerated at the Division of Community Corrections. He was not considered an escapee from the courthouse. He was a defendant who, like a lot of our defendants these days, are not in custody when they come to stand trial."
