The Office of Governor Steve Beshear says his chief of staff died today.

Mike Haydon, 62, passed away Sunday.

Haydon was the Mayor of Springfield before becoming the Governor’s Legislative Director. Then in 2010, he started as the Chief of Staff.

In a statement, Governor Beshear praised Haydon’s dedication, counsel, knowledge and sense of humor.

Beshear says Haydon was a man who “dedicated his life to improving the future for Kentuckians."

The cause of death has not been announced.
