At 3 PM, smoke continued to billow out from Morehead State's Downing Hall.  Firefighters arrived at 7 AM.  In the early afternoon, they waited for the fire to burn up more of the top floor, so it would collapse.

When firefighters first went into the building, bricks fell on them, and four went to the hospital.

"We had a partial collapse of one corner of the building, near an overhaul.  So, for a minute, or two we were thinking that we may have some serious injuries," said Jeff Anderson, the Morehead Fire Department's Chief.

Anderson says the firefighters only suffered minor injuries, and left the hospital.

The fire shocked people on MSU's campus.

"When I rolled in the parking lot there was smoke and flames everywhere, fire trucks, and sirens.  I was quite confused.  I had no clue what was going on, and it was just a big shock to see a fire this close to campus," said Patrick Delaney.

Downing Hall used to be a dorm, but it is now used mostly for storage.  Nobody was in the building, and firefighters don't know how the fire started.

"it was through the roof when we arrived on scene.  We don't suspect anything going on as far as arson at this time, but we're going to have to do an investigation," said Anderson.

Three conjoined buildings separated by firewalls make the Downing Hall.  The firefighters kept the fire to the far building.  They say that one is a total loss, and the other two are fine.
