Lexington police have confirmed that a semi tractor trailer containing potentially hazardous material has overturned at the 113 mile marker on northbound I-75.

Police said an officer was attempting to pull over the semi when the 18-wheeler flipped onto its side.

The cruiser the officer was driving was badly damaged, as was another compact car at the scene.

Officials said they're not sure what contents may have been inside the tractor trailer that spilled onto the roadway, but they caution everyone to avoid the area.

Traffic is currently being diverted from I-64 East onto Paris Pike; I-64 West onto I-75 South.

We will continue to provide you with the latest updates as they become available.
