The Fayette County Coroner said a 12-year old girl who was hit by a car while walking on Auburn Drive Wednesday afternoon, died as a result of her injuries.

The victim's name was not released.

Lexington Police said the driver of the car who hit the girl told investigators that she was blinded by the sun and didn't see the girl as she turned left from Eastland Parkway onto Auburn Drive.

The Lexington Fire Department said the girl was pinned against a tree in the front yard of a home near where she was initially hit.

Police said the driver was cooperating with authorities.

The Lexington Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the deadly accident.
