Update: Former UK Football Player Shot

Police Search For Two Suspects After A Former UK Football Player Is Shot.
Police say they are looking for two shooting suspects.  Police Records show former UK football player Shomari Moore was shot Monday night on Elkhorn Road in Lexington.

Moore played defensive back for the 'Cats from 2005-2008.

In '07, Moore made the SEC Academic Honor Roll.  In '05, coaches voted Moore a freshman All SEC member.

On a website, Moore says he worked as a grad assistant strength and conditioning Coach for the 2012 UK basketball championship team.

Monday night, police say Moore stopped for two men waving at him.  Police say the suspects approached the car, and shot Moore.

"The reason for the shooting is unknown.  It appears that this could be an attempted robbery," said Lexington Police Sgt. Pete Ford.

Ford says Moore drove away down Winchester read going downtown.  Police say Moore flagged down a police officer, and explained what happened.

"This is a fortunate situation for the victim," said Sgt. Ford.

Ford says Moore is pulling through.

Police say they know very little about the suspects.  They say one is a black male, and the other is a lighter skinned male, but they aren't sure what race he is.

"We have no further on the suspects at this time," said Ford.

Police say surveillance video in the area did not give them any leads.  So, they are asking for help from anybody who was around Elkhorn Road Monday night.

"Maybe they saw someone prior to 9:30 PM, waiving people down," said Sgt. Ford.

Police records listed Moore as 27-years-old.  UK Athletics declined to comment at this time.
