Family of a man who was struck by a car Sunday in Lexington say they expect 25-year-old Christopher Mayfield to make a full recovery.

Mayfield is in critical condition as of Monday night after allegedly being struck on purpose by a woman near a gas station on the corner of Angliana and Broadway.

According to Lexington Police Mayfield came upon a couple that were arguing in the gas station parking lot and somehow intervened in the argument.

Police say the woman in the argument, Shmecko Howard turned hostile towards Mayfield and allegedly got in her car, and struck Mayfield.

Police have Howard in custody and have charged her with first-degree assault and second-degree tampering with physical evidence.

Mayfield is also the father of a two-year old and seven month old.

Family are currently setting up a benefit fund to help pay for Mayfield's expenses.
