Update: Douglass Park Shooting Called "Accidental"

Lexington Police said they were sent on a wild goose chase by a reported witness to a double-shooting in Douglass Park. Police said there was no suspect. Investigators said the shootings were accidental.
Lexington Police said they were sent on a wild goose chase Monday afternoon looking for a suspect in a double-shooting that didn't exist.

Police said a 16-year old boy, whose name wasn't released because of his age and Ashley Thompson, 20, were shot in Douglass Park.

Police said a reported witness told officers on the scene that a shooting suspect had run from the scene, which resulted in a police search.

Monday night, investigators said it was determined that there was no shooting suspect.

Police said the teenager and Thompson were moving around in a van when the teen's gun went off, wounding both of them in the leg.

Investigators said the two were taken to U.K. Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators called the shooting "accidental."

Police said they're following-up with the reported witness, who investigators said gave them false information.
