Update: Deadly Shooting May Have Been Domestic Dispute

Hazard Police said a possible domestic dispute resulted in a man and woman being gunned down and a young girl critically wounded in a car parked in a campus parking lot.

Police said a gunman fired into a vehicle that was parked in a lot at Hazard Community and Technical College just before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The campus was on lockdown for more than an hour while police searched the school buildings to make sure there was no further danger to faculty, staff or students.

In a statement released by the school late Tuesday, college officials said it didn't appear the school was specifically targeted or that any of the people involved were students or employees of the community college.

The school called off classes Wednesday.

Investigators said they had recovered the weapon, a semiautomatic pistol.

The Perry County Coroner described the crime scene as "bloody."

The girl who was wounded was taken to U.K. Hospital in Lexington.  Her name was not released. 

Meantime, the accused shooter turned himself in to State Police.

The jail in Hazard identified the suspect to ABC 36 News as Dalton Stidham, 21, who was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

The Lexington Herald-Leader quoted Hazard Assistant Police Chief Joe Engle, who told the newspaper the two people who were killed were Caitlin Cornett, 20, of Knott County, and her uncle Jackie Cornett, 53, of the Perry County community of Happy. 

Assistant Chief Engle told the newspaper that preliminary information indicated that Caitlin Cornett and Dalton Stidham had a child in common and had met in the parking lot to exchange the child for visitation.

Engle told the newspaper that the child was not injured and was in the custody of social services workers.
