Berea Independent School canceled on their first day back to classes today.

Superintendent Mike Hogg said the roof, which is under construction, was leaking after a 30 minute downpour Wednesday night.

Hogg said 15 – 20 ceiling tiles collapsed and water was running on the floor.

“It created unsafe conditions for kids and staff members,” Hogg said. “So we made the decision last night when we came in that it just wasn't the best condition to have students.”

With more rain on the way, Hogg said he hopes the roof will be able to hold the water. They plan to start school on Monday.
