“I don't know what's going to happen next,” she said. “I really don't.”

Curtis Flora, 36, is in the Jessamine County Detention Center and has been charged with assault. The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Department said Flora physically assaulted James Dean Wallace, 32.

Deputies said it happened after they left a party on New Year’s Eve. They were driving away in a pick-up truck, when an argument broke out on Vince Road in Jessamine County.

The Sheriff Department said Flora hit Wallace repeatedly in the head with his fist. Then Flora drove to his mother’s house in Lexington with Wallace still in the truck.

Flora’s family said they then called 911, and Wallace was taken to UK Hospital, where he is still in critical condition.

“What I’d like to do now is just try to cope with everything that's going on,” Flora’s mother said. “And mostly try to put all this behind us. It’s really been hard. It's been hard.”
