Update: Accused Carjacker Arrested

Lexington police say they've arrested Wesley Rutherford, who is accused of at least two of the recent carjackings in Lexington.
Lexington police say they've arrested a man accused of at least two of the recent carjackings Thursday.

Police say Wesley Rutherford was seen in the West Second Street area around 11:45AM.

Officers arrested him after a short chase.

He was wanted on two warrants: possession of a forged instrument and robbery.

Police say they believe Rutherford stole a vehicle at 1555 East New Circle Road on July 10th, 2012. They say he spoke to the victim, stole her vehicle, then headed to a nearby bank where he used her information to get money.

Officials say the victim in the second carjacking had the same story: that a man, whom police believe to be Rutherford, spoke to her before stealing her vehicle. The victim was injured during the incident, though police didn't say how.

There is no word yet on whether Rutherford was involved in more than those two auto thefts.
