The Clay County Coroner said Jasamine Collins, 7, of Manchester, died Wednesday night after being hit by a tractor-trailer transport truck as she walked along the Hal Rogers Parkway.

Coroner Danny Finley said Collins and a 12-year old girl had been playing outside after getting out of school and that Collins' mother was not aware the girls had left the yard and were walking along the parkway.

Investigators said around 6:50 p.m., a tractor-trailer transport truck hit Collins as she walked along the side of the parkway.

Collins was rushed to the local hospital where she died around 8:00 p.m., from multiple blunt force trauma, according to Coroner Finley.

Investigators said the 12-year old girl was not hit or injured.

Investigators would not say if the girls were walking with or against traffic at the time of the accident.

State Police said the driver cooperated with investigators and that he had not been charged.

Investigators said as standard procedure in cases like this, the driver was tested for drugs and alcohol.

State Police said the samples would be sent to the State Crime Lab.  It could be weeks before results are known.

Investigators did not release the truck driver's name.

Both sides of the Hal Rogers Parkway were closed while the accident was investigated by State Police.

The accident remained under investigation.
