A plane made an emergency landing at Bluegrass Airport when a mechanical issue was discovered Wednesday.

ExpressJet Airlines Flight 5701, which was acting as United Express, was scheduled to fly from Columbia, South Carolina to the Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

ExpressJet officials say that during the flight, the crew reported a mechanical issue with the hydraulic system...so they diverted the plane to Lexington.

Airport officials say Flight 5701 landed safely just before 10AM.

ExpressJet said a replacement plane was scheduled to land at Bluegrass Airport at 12PM to take the passengers to Chicago.

The airline added that the diversion was a precaution; it's standard procedure.

Flight officials said there is a backup hydraulic system on their planes just in case the first one fails.
