USDA Promotes New Legislation at Frankfort School

The government will soon decide if Central Kentucky 'makes the grade' when it comes to healthy school meals. USDA Food and Nutrition Service Administrator Audrey Rowe promoted the new legislation Wednesday at Elkhorn Middle School in Frankfort.
The government will soon decide if Central Kentucky 'makes the grade' when it comes to healthy school meals.

USDA Food and Nutrition Service Administrator Audrey Rowe promoted the new legislation Wednesday at Elkhorn Middle School in Frankfort.

Districts will have to start meeting certain nutrition requirements this fall under the 'Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act'.

It means portion control and more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

The guidelines also work to cut back on sodium, trans fat and saturated fat.
