A man accused of crashing into an SUV on I-64 back in June has been indicted on a murder charge that police said resulted from the collision.

24-year-old Angel Mejia's indictment was returned on Tuesday.

According to Lexington police, Mejia was driving his SUV near the 84 mile marker when he hit another SUV, causing it to flip several times.

They said a passenger, 68-year-old Wanda Beach, was killed in the accident.

Officers also reported that Mejia ran from the scene and was later found hiding in a barn a few hundred yards away.

They said several open beer bottles were discovered in his vehicle as well.

In addition to murder, Mejia faces charges of wanton endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.

His arraignment is scheduled for August 22.
