UPDATE: Lincoln County Reschedules Start Of School For August 13

The first day of school for Lincoln County Public School students was rescheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2014, following a fire in the Board of Education building.
At a specially called Lincoln County School Board meeting Thursday evening, it was decided that the first day of school would be delayed until Wednesday, August 13, 2014, according to Superintendent Karen Hatter.

School was scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 7, but the day before, the Board of Education building was heavily damaged by fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

The fire destroyed the pre-school area, the cafeteria, technology hub as well as education records and files.

The damage to the technology hub knocked out phone and Internet service to schools on ten campuses throughout the county.

Superintendent Hatter said mobile units would be set up for the pre-school program as well as a technology and Internet hub.

She said central offices would be relocated to downtown Stanford.

Hatter said she felt like the school district was ready to move forward after the devastating fire.
