UPDATE: Images, Video And Information Released In Train-Semi Collision

New video, still images and information were released Monday by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office from last Friday afternoon's semi-train collision, including the injured truck driver's name and hospital condition.
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office on Monday released new information, images and surveillance video from last Friday's fiery collision between a tractor-trailer and a train.

It happened just after 3:00 p.m. off of Highway 2227 at the entrance to Warner Fertilizer.

Investigators said the initial impact of the train against the semi caused an explosion of fuel and a smoke plume that could be seen for several miles.

Deputies said that a 2015 Volvo truck, driven by Viktor Kalchenia, 27, from Auburn, Washington, was hauling charcoal lighter fluid and was northbound on Highway 2227 when the driver was trying to turn left into the Warner Fertilizer plant.

The entrance to the plant has two entryways, one for northbound traffic and one for southbound traffic.

Investigators said the semi driver, Kalchenia, passed his intended entrance and had to maneuver his rig in an attempt to turn left into the southbound entrance.

While doing so, Kalchenia was watching the rear of his trailer to make sure his rear most wheels weren't going to drop off of the road and he took his eyes off the railroad tracks and pulled forward without watching for approaching trains, according to investigators.

Kalchenia then drove his rig across the tracks and right into the path of a southbound Norfolk-Southern train, according to Deputies.

The collision caused the fuel from the truck to burst into a fireball and fuel sprayed on the front of the train, causing extensive burn damage to the train engine, according to investigators.

Kalchenia was treated at the scene for burns and was later airlifted to UK Hospital in Lexington where he was listed in stable condition on Monday, according to investigators.
