One of the top SUBWAY® restaurants in the world is located on the University of Kentucky campus. UK has earned the honor of being named the 2013 Single-Unit Owner Franchisee of the Year for the USA in the South Mid Atlantic Region, one of only 22 regions worldwide. SUBWAY's Franchise World Headquarters recently announced its top performers out of some 40,000 restaurants operating around the globe.

"This is an incredible achievement and high honor." said Ray Schmidt, associate director of UK Dining Services, which operates the UK SUBWAY. "We want to thank our amazing team members who are dedicated to delivering excellent food and service and our faithful customers who know a good product when they eat it."

The Regional Single-Unit Owner awards are partially determined by calculating which SUBWAY restaurants achieved the highest growth the previous year. In comparison to 2,350 outlets in the region, UK's SUBWAY increased same store sales by 22 percent as well as increasing store profits and upholding Subway’s standards. The UK SUBWAY ranked sixth in the United States out of over 22,000 restaurants.

"We have great admiration for the hard work and dedication of the thousands of SUBWAY franchisees throughout the world and in the millions of customers that they serve," said Don Fertman, chief development officer for the SUBWAY restaurant chain. "The franchise owner continues to be the heart and soul of the SUBWAY family. Our success depends upon their excellence in operating their restaurant and motivating their team to provide the best service and sandwiches possible."

The UK SUBWAY is located in the UK Student Center and operates a cart in the Ralph G. Anderson Building.
