UK President Eli Capilouto says he is against state money to pay for the renovation or replacement of Rupp Arena, because UK has more important spending priorities.

In a statement, which also includes the names of Coach John Calipari and Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart, Dr. Capilouto says the university needs money for educational and living facilities on campus.

In his own statement, Mayor Jim Gray did not directly criticize Dr. Capilouto's statement, but did say tremendous things are possible when the city, state, and university work together.
