Members of the Frankfort Tennis Association held a Junior Team Tennis Camp tonight at the Franklin County High School.
“It's just amazing,” says Sonya Harward. “It's my favorite thing in the world.”
The camp helped younger athletes improve their skills. Something the coordinators say will benefit them for the rest of their life.
“Just knowing it's a lifelong sport,” Harward comments. “We have 4 year olds play all the way up to 92 year olds.”
Dennis Emery, the UK Men’s Tennis Coach, led the camp.
“Tennis has been great for me,” Emery says. “I don’t know what I’d be doing if I wasn’t coaching tennis.”
18 years ago, Emery founded the Fifth-Third Tennis Tournament. Some of the children from the camp will be working at the tournament as ball boys and girls.
They will also have a chance to watch the UK tennis players in action.
“Our guys love meeting the young players around the state because they feel like they can come out and cheer them on in the spring,” Emery adds.
ABC 36 is proud to be part of the Fifth-Third Tennis Tournament. It runs from July 21 – 29 at UK’s Boone Tennis Center.
“It fills in the gaps of all the things that are going on,” Howard says about playing tennis. “When I get off work, I know that there's something I can come and do.”
