After years of being told to put away during class, a UK Professor is encouraging the use of cell phones in his class.
Dr. David Royster, a professor of Mathematics Outreach, is using “Top Hat Technology,” where students interact in class using new technology.
Royster said his students will text in their attendance and answers to questions during class by using their cell phones, computers and tablets.
He said using the technology lets students us what they already have and involves them in the class.
“Some people thought it was neat, and others thought it was just something else they would have to do,” Royster said about his students reaction to using a cell phone in class.
“I did it in the calculus two class and they all said, oh neat cool, and they were really excited about using it. So I think it sort of depends on the student.”
