The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees approved an $83.9 million dollar private investment to bring 1,141 modern residence hall beds to the college.
The investment from UK partner EdR will mean 5,733 new modern residence hall beds have been constructed since 2013, totaling $348.3 million.
The newest installment, labeled Limestone Park I and II, will be on the university's north campus and will be completed fall of 2016.
To make room for the development, Boyd, Holmes, Jewell, and Keeneland Halls will be torn down, along with the Hamilton House.
Once it's completed, the campus will have a mixture of private single, double and quad units, as well as 25 active learning rooms and 13,500 square feet of shell space.
The construction also calls for Patterson Hall to close for renovations through fall 2016.
Blazer Hall will close for residential purposes, but its dining area will stay open throughout the construction. Minor upgrades to its classrooms, offices, and support spaces are scheduled as part of the renovation.
UK is considering adding up to 9,000 new residence hall beds over the next five to seven years, which would amount to $500 million in private equity investment.
