Two Somerset High School football players were seriously injured in a car accident late Thursday afternoon, according to Somerset Police.

Somerset High's Head Football Coach told ABC 36 News that Jacobi Gilmore and Will Hinton were in stable condition, but that both players would require surgery.

Investigators initially called the injuries life-threatening.

Somerset Police said the teens pulled into the path of a semi on Kentucky 80, outside Somerset.

Police said the driver of the semi wasn't hurt.

The two injured football players were airlifted to U.K. Hospital.
