Police investigate robberies at two Lexington convenience stores on Friday morning.

The first happened just after 12 a.m. at the Thorntons on Versailles Road.

Police said the suspect walked in, poured himself a fountain drink then walked up to the counter and began paying for his drink.

When the register opened, that's when the suspect jumped over the counter, pushed the clerk away and grabbed the money from the drawer.

He then took off.

The second robbery happened just after 3:30 p.m. at the Speedway on Winchester Road.

Police said a suspect matching the same description as the one who robbed the Thorntons earlier approached the clerk, showed a knife and demanded cash.

He left after getting it.

Police said they believe the suspect used a car parked near the scene to get away in both cases.
