Contractors will start removing trees Monday in the Veterans Park area as part of the West Hickman sanitary sewer trunk replacement project.
The tree removal work is one of the first steps in the process.
The city said crews would be constructing about 6,000 feet of sanitary sewer trunk for the project.
Construction is set to begin later this year and should last about six months.
The city said the sewer trunk replacement is an improvement project required under the Consent Decree.
It's a legal agreement the city signed after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sued Lexington for alleged violations of the federal Clean Water Act.
