Traveling Memorial Makes Stop In Powell County

A replica of the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C. made a stop in Clay City Saturday.
A traveling memorial allowed people in Powell County to pay their respects to those lives lost in Vietnam.

The memorial is a 1/5 scale replica of the iconic wall in Washington, D.C. It's the third year the traveling memorial made it's way to Clay City at the AmVets Post 67.

Guests also enjoyed live music and speakers. Organizers said it's good to see so many people, who may not be able to make it to our nation's capitol, have exposure to the memorial.

"Vietnam vets have gotten together over the years and we have these rallies as a means of making up the lack of homecoming but more importantly as a means of insuring that the guys that serve today aren't treated the same way," said Dave Kaufman, National Vietnam Veterans Foundation VP.

The memorial leaves Clay City Sunday. There is also a candlelight vigil scheduled Saturday night at 8:30.
