Police say a 19-year-old Transylvania student attempted to fight off a burglar Thursday night, even after he reportedly punched her in the face.

Police say the woman reported the burglary around 11:30 p.m. The woman says she was walking to the 400 block of North Broadway when a man approached her and grabbed her purse.

The woman says she tried to fight that man off but he punched her in the face. She says she saw a gun in the man's pants but continued to chase him until they reached Second Street. That's when she says the man jumped on a bike and rode off.

The woman suffered only minor injuries.
