Lexington Police said a man was hit and killed by a train around 2:30 a.m.

The man was reportedly on the train tracks near the overpass on Manchester Drive.

Police said the train conductor told investigators that he saw the man, sitting on the side of the tracks, but it was too late for him to stop.

When officials arrived they had to walk down the length of the train searching for the victim.

It took about 30 minutes to find the man.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
