Too Big to Succeed?

Some parents are upset about overcrowding at Scott County High School. They voiced those concerns to the Scott County Board of Education Tuesday night.
"You should be ashamed of yourselves," says Tiffany Lance, who is talking to the Scott County Board of Education.

Lance is upset.  She is one of the dozens of parents who packed the Board of Education meeting Tuesday night.  The board recently decided to go ahead with building a new elementary school but opponents, like Lance, believe there is a greater need for a new high school.

"They keep building elementary schools, one right after the other, they've also built another middle school but there's still nothing being done at the high school and the overcrowding problem is literally out of control at the high school," explains Lance.

The debate became heated at many points throughout the meeting.  Opponents have even created a group called Scott County High School Too Big to Succeed.  One of the members spoke on behalf of everyone in the group and voiced it's concerns.  Superintendent Patricia Putty says she knows that the district needs another high school but they don't have the funding to build one.

"We can't afford it.  I would love nothing more than to have the money to be able to set forth and say we have a plan but I don't believe in building or designing a school in total isolation," says Putty.

She says that it would require raising property taxes and, for that, she would need the public's support.
