Teen Charged As Dive Team Searches For Gun In Lexington Pond

Lexington Police said Datwan Davis, 18, threw a gun into a retention pond during a foot chase with an officer.
A dive team from the Lexington Fire Department spent part of Friday searching a retention pond looking for a gun.

No gun was found.

Lexington Police said it all began on Thursday in the Centre Parkway area.

Investigators said Datwan Davis, 18, was trespassing at a nearby gas station.

Police said Davis took off running when an officer got out to talk to him.  A foot chase ensued.

Police said during the chase, Davis pulled out a gun and threw it into the pond.

The pond is behind an apartment complex and Tates Creek High School.  Police said they didn't want to take any chances with the number of children who live and play in the area.  That's why the divers were called-in to try to find the weapon.

Police said Davis was arrested and charged with Trespassing, Fleeing and Evading Police, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Possession of Marijuana.

He was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.
