Some people don't pay their taxes, and Kentucky has been letting those people pay, with out penalty, for the last few weeks.  The amnesty offer expires Friday at Midnight.

All day, Department of Revenue workers answered phone calls, and filed applications with time running out for tax amnesty.

"We've had lots of taxpayers walking in, coming in, filing their applications, so forth.  We've received approximately 3,000 phone calls today, so there's a lot of activity," said Mack Gillim, Executive Director of the Office of Processing and Enforcement for the Department of Revenue.

Taxpayers owe the state $250 million.  The Department of Revenue hopes to collect 20% of that in one shot.

"The goal for amnesty, which includes post-amnesty penalties, payment agreements, and so forth is around 56 million dollars," said Gillim.

Those millions will go into the state budget's general fund.

"It's not a big percentage, but it's still significant in terms of the total budget," said Gillim.

If you owe money, you have until midnight to apply and pay without penalties, fees, and half the interest.  You can do so at: http://www.amnesty.ky.gov/
