Danville Police said a chase after a suspect was the cause of two car crashes early this morning, with one of those accidents involving two police officers.

Officers said around 5 a.m. a man reportedly stole alcohol and clothes from a Wal-Mart. They said he took off in a red Pontiac heading north on Hustonville Road.

Police said they signaled for him to stop, but he kept going.

Eventually, they said the road split and the suspect hit a fence and went into a creek.

Officers said that the first officer chasing him pulled over on a bridge. That’s when came up from behind and hit the back of the first police cruiser.

Police said both officers were treated and released from the hospital.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for a broken arm and other injuries.
