Police have arrested a man they said stole a car and then wrecked it on a Lexington road.

Abdul Simmons, 18, was taken into custody late Thursday night off Richmond Road.

Police said an officer tried to pull Simmons over, but Simmons drove off, failing to stop at a stop sign and a red light.

Simmons soon crashed the car on Richmond Road, near Lakeshore Drive.

Police said Simmons then jumped from the car and took off. He was soon caught.

He is charged with receiving stolen property, reckless driving, fleeing and evading, possession of marijuana and having no driver’s license.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
