Substitute Teacher Accused Of Showing Up At School Intoxicated

A substitute teacher in the Fayette County Public School System was cited Friday morning at Bryan Station High School for public intoxication of a controlled substance, according to school officials.

A School District spokesperson said Shannon Tipton showed up late to substitute teach at Bryan Station High and that the attendance clerk said Tipton was "acting strangely."

The Principal and School Law Enforcement Officer were notified. 

School officials said Tipton was given a field sobriety test and then cited for public intoxication of a controlled substance.

School officials said Tipton was removed from the school and released to a family member.

School officials said parents of the estimated 15-students in Tipton's first class were notified of the incident.

Other Bryan Station teachers filled-in for Tipton the rest of the school day.

When ABC 36 News asked a School District spokesperson about Tipton's job status, we were told it is pending an internal investigation.
