Winter is still a way off.

But Kentucky road crews are already getting ready for it.

State workers, who handle 12 counties, competed Tuesday in an equipment 'Roadeo' in Fayette County.

The annual event allows operators to face-off in contests using equipment like trucks, backhoes and plows.

Organizers say the friendly competition helps workers sharpen their skills ahead of winter.

District 7 crews cover Anderson, Boyle, Bourbon, Clark, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Fayette, Scott and Woodford counties.
