State Police were told Thursday that an inmate from Three Forks Detention Center escaped while on a work release.

They said 29-year-old Melvin Scott Garland was at the Wolfe County Highway Garage in Campton around 8:30 in the morning, but think he may have been picked up in a private vehicle on its way to Magoffin County.

Garland is described as being six-feet tall, around 175 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.

If you have seen Garland or know of his possible whereabouts, contact State Police Post 8 at (606) 784-4127.
