State Police Investigate Reports Of Laser Beam Pointed At Pilots

State Police said pilots flying in eastern Kentucky Thursday night reported seeing a laser beam pointed at them, which is both dangerous and illegal.
State Police said pilots flying in eastern Kentucky Thursday night reported seeing a high-powered laser beam pointed at them.

Air traffic controllers started warning pilots in flying in that part of the state of the reported incidents.

It is against the law in Kentucky to point a laser at an aircraft.

A laser beam pointed at a plane's cockpit can momentarily blind a pilot.

State Police said there was a similar incident reported last month south of Stanford in Lincoln County.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said there have been a dozen reported cases of laser beams pointed at pilots in Kentucky in the first six months of this year.
