The recent spike in motorcycle crashes has Kentucky State Police and first responders looking for opportunities to reach out to motorcycle owners.

The agency is held its fifth annual "Motorcycle Safety Day" event in Frankfort on Monday.

One of the messages of the event was that car and motorcycle drivers should "share the road."

A state police spokesperson said motorcycle crashes are up 52 percent over this same time period last year.

There have already been 818 motorcycle crashes resulting in 33 deaths this year.
