State Auditor Edelen Pushes For Data Breach Alert In KY

Kentucky State Auditor Adam Edelen is pushing for legislation that would alert the public during a data breach similar to what Target stores are facing.
Target customers in Lexington and across the country are checking credit card and bank statements.

This after the company says information from approximately 40-million of its customers credit and debit cards may have been compromised by a data breach.

Target says the customers who could be affected shopped at its stores on or after Black Friday.

Now Kentucky's State Auditor is pushing for legislation that would alert the public during a similar data breach.

Adam Edelen says setting up a notification system may cost thousands of dollars on the front end.

But he believes it could ultimately save consumers millions of dollars.

Edelen plans to introduce legislation proposing an alert system when the General Assembly meets in January.
