On Thursday, Kentucky soldiers serving in Afghanistan, the Middle East and at Guantanamo Bay got the chance to speak with UK head basketball coach John Calipari through Skype.

"This is a great thing for them," Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini, Kentucky's adjutant general, commented. "When you can do it with something as passionate as Kentucky basketball and Coach Cal, I can tell you these young people look forward to it, maybe more so than anything else. This could be as special as a call from home for them."

Calipari started off the conversation from his office by thanking the troops for what they do and how happy he was to see all the Wildcat fans overseas.

Julius Randall and Alex Poythress also stopped by to say hello and thank the soldiers for their service.

This marks the third year in a row the troops have been able to speak with Coach Cal, but officials said the meeting was mainly about Kentucky and the support at home for all the soldiers serving around the globe.
