Facebook and other social media sites are working with law enforcement to track down sexual predators and other alleged criminals, by monitoring people's messages.

In a recent article in Reuters Facebook's Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan told how the site has a screening software that looks for conversations between two parties of people without well developed friendships and of large age differences and look for certain words and language that may raise red flags.

They say that if there is enough evidence, then the software notifies Facebook's security team who overlook the report and then decide whether to contact law enforcement or not.

ABC 36 also spoke with a local US Attorney who says the most important social media screening has to start in the home with parents, who have to do their due diligence in monitoring who their children are talking to.
