Snow Is Here!

Snow Is Here!

Snow has arrived in Central Kentucky.
The snow is beginning to fall.  The roads are wet and as temperatures continue to drop it's could get very icy and, on top of that, you add 30 to 40 mile per hour wind gusts which could lead to some very dangerous driving conditions.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has more than 990 trucks available to spread salt and clear the snow.  Last year, the state used a record 501,000 tons of salt.
The City of Lexington had already used 6 to 7,000 tons of salt by this time last year, but so far, it's only used 300 tons of salt.
Crews have been out pre-treating the roads and they're ready for the city's first recorded snow of the season.  Police say since 6 P.M., there have been 80 accidents, at least 2 of those were with injuries.
While crews will be out all night trying to keep the roads safe, it's important for drivers to use caution.  Give yourself plenty of time to get where you're going and leave enough room between your car and the one in front of you, because as darkness falls and temperatures drop, it could be dangerous out on the roads.
You can check the state's road conditions by going to 511.ky.gov.
