ABC 36 has teamed up with area fire departments to give away smoke detectors.

If you don't have one, you need one.

Statistics show you increase your chances of surviving a house fire by nearly 50-percent if you have a working smoke detector in hour home.

Nearly two-thirds of home fire deaths occur in houses without a working smoke detector, according to fire death statistics.

On Friday, December 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., you can get a free smoke detector at Fire Station #3 at 101 Airport Road in Georgetown.

The giveaway is open only to residents of Scott County.

Look for "live" reports on ABC 36 News at 5 and 6.
