Lexington Police said they responded to 25 weather-related wrecks Sunday evening between five and nine p.m.
They said only three of those had injuries.
“It’s very difficult to drive under these conditions,” said Major Daniel Bellot with the Lexington Fire Department.
Major Bellot said Sunday’s combination of rain, sleet and snow made the roads very dangerous.
A pick-up truck carrying a trailer slide on the icy I-75 N bridge crossing the Kentucky River near Clay’s Ferry.
A semi-truck slammed into the trailer sending debris across the highway.
“Bridges and overpasses will freeze a little quicker than the rest of the roads,” said Major Bellot.
Only one lane of I-75 N was open for many hours.
“Please keep your distance, slowdown, be mindful about the weather conditions and the road conditions,” said Major Bellot.
Crews are out plowing and salting roads in hopes of having a clear and safe morning commute.
