Sheriff: Laurel County Man Wanted In Lightning Rod Scam

The Whitley County Sheriff said Mark Anthony Adams, 21, of London, was wanted in connection to a lightning rod installation scam that cost a reported victim thousands of dollars.
The Whitley County Sheriff said a warrant had been issued for the arrest of Mark Anthony Adams, 21, of London, in connection to a lightning rod installation scam.

Investigators said Adams presented himself as an employee of the Cumberland Valley RECC on February 20, 2014, and told a man he was there to install lightning rods to protect the man's home.

Authorities said after Adams installed the lightning rods, he told the homeowner the cost was $8,000, but then dropped the price to $4,000 after the homeowner refused to pay.

Investigators said Adams told the man he would lose his job if he didn't get the $4,000 installation fee.

The reported victim wrote Adams a check for $4,000, according to investigators.

Investigators said Adams returned to the home at a later date with a chainsaw and cut some trees.

The homeowner told Adams to leave and contacted the Whitley County Sheriff's Department, which led to the investigation, according to authorities.
